There is a ship-sized rāhui capsizing south of Dunedin, claiming the life of a child, while the investigation continues.

Five people were taken to Dunedin hospital after the incident around 1:00 pm yesterday in Taieri Mouth, a small town at the mouth of the Taieri River.
Local iwi have placed a rāhui over the area until 9 a.m. tomorrow. M.
Another child remains in serious but stable condition in the ICU. The other three, two adults and a child, have since been released.
The small boat with an outboard motor capsized while trying to cross the bar and could not initially be found.
However, police today confirmed that it has now been located, allowing Maritime New Zealand to begin its investigation.
Police thanked the public for their help after the group was carried ashore by nearby surfers and water skiers. Then the jet skiers gave them first aid, which turned out to be doctors.
“We also acknowledge that several people came to the aid of the ship’s occupants yesterday and helped rescue them and provide first aid,” said a spokesman.
The police offer support to rescuers.
The police have launched an investigation into the boy’s death on behalf of the coroner.
