A Givealittle page created in memory of the 25-year-old woman who died after falling from a charter boat in Auckland’s Waitematā harbor has amassed more than $ 10,000 in donations in less than 24 hours.

Danielle Tamarua died of serious injuries after falling overboard from a Zefiro Charters ship Thursday night.

He had been on board the ship with other members of the LittleWolf Catering staff, whom he had recently joined as a part-time chef.

LittleWolf Catering General Manager Marcel Leydesdorff, along with other staff, created the Givealittle page on Saturday to raise money for the Tamarua couple and their two young children.

The page described the 25-year-old as a “much loved member” of the LittleWolf Catering kitchen team.

“Danielle was a beautiful, kind and gentle mother of two young children,” the page read.

“Danielle left us on April 1, after suffering a tragic accident at our staff’s party, surrounded by her colleagues and friends from work.”

“Danielle’s passing is a great loss to her young family, and we know that the Auckland hospital community will want to join us in supporting them through this difficult time.”

The page had raised $ 10,610 as of 11am Sunday morning, just 17 hours after the page was created.

The largest donation, $ 5,000, was made by Luxury LAS, a luxury travel company.

“The Luxury LAS team is sending you hugs and love,” read an accompanying comment.

Another comment read, “I know all your colleagues will miss you very much.”

“My thoughts and prayers are with his family,” said another.

When contacted by Things Leydesdorff said Sunday morning that she was inspired to create the page with “Danielle’s two beautiful children and the dignity and strength of her family.”

Leydesdorff said he is “not thinking about money at this stage” and has no set goal in mind.

“I would love to overwhelm Danielle’s family with support beyond their expectations,” she said.

“There will be a long period of healing ahead of them and Danielle’s children, rather than a financial goal, come first on our minds.”

Reaching more than $ 10,000 in 24 hours is an impressive feat, but Leydesdorff said he is not surprised by the page’s success.

“The last twelve months have shown that the hospitality and events industry is a strong and generous community that takes care of its own during difficult times.”

“Danielle was a beautiful person who was very loved by those of us who work with her, so it doesn’t surprise me that someone who knew her feels the same way and wants to help.

“We are all still grieving, but it helps to know that our friends and colleagues in the industry are quick to be supportive and generous.”

“We are extremely grateful to anyone who helps, either by donating or by sharing the link.”

On Friday, police and Maritime NZ personnel were at Auckland’s Viaduct Basin on Friday morning, where Zefiro was docked, to investigate the scene.

Police and Maritime NZ are still working to understand the circumstances of Tamarua’s death, police said in a statement Saturday.
