Two teenagers suspended in midair for hours after a malfunction at a US amusement park.

Something from a nightmare came true for two teenagers in Florida, USA.

On Thursday, the CNN affiliate in Orlando reported that two teenagers were trapped at the top of the sling ride at the Old Town amusement park in Kissimmee for hours after one of the cables broke.

The ride was about 40 feet in the air when the Osceola County Fire Department and other emergency workers came to rescue the teens.

Fortunately, the cable that broke was a non-load bearing cable and the passengers refused to receive medical attention.

“The trip is designed with redundancy, so if something like this happens, it’s very unusual to begin with, but if it happens, then we have a backup system and everything worked out fine,” he explained.

“The only unfortunate situation is that they were suspended from the trip for a few hours.”

Workers returned to the site the next day to investigate the cause of the malfunction. Old Town Slingshot sales and marketing director John Stine said there is “no timetable” for when the case will conclude.

“We will do it when everything is done the way it should be done,” he told CNN.

The trip was last inspected on March 19 with no problems.

Stine says the company conducts daily inspections and conducts official inspections with the state twice a year.
