The moment a groom accidentally dropped his bride’s wedding ring into the lake during their ceremony was caught on camera.
Andrew and Marlee Kent of Washington were saying “Yes, I do” on a wooden pier in Lake Tahoe, California, when the accident occurred.
Everything was going well until it was time to change the ring.
Andrew opened the box and then, as he nervously fumbled trying to get the ring out, it fell between a gap in the dock and right into the lake below them.
“Honestly, I thought, this can’t be happening. As if that isn’t just happening,” the bride, Marlee, told CNN.
The images show the couple on their hands and knees as they view the ring in the crystal clear waters of the lake.
“My first thought was how deep is it, how cold is it?” Andrew recalled, revealing that he was contemplating jumping into the lake to retrieve it, but the pastor advised him not to.
The couple ended up asking a local dive group on Facebook for help, and an experienced diver came to their rescue.
Phill Abernathy jumped into the cold water and retrieved the ring for the pair, not after fighting a crayfish to get to it.
“I am very grateful to have my ring back, but either way it is a great story to tell our children one day,” said the bride.
