Two people were killed and others seriously injured in multiple crashes on Sunday (file photo).
Two people died and others were seriously injured after several traffic accidents on Sunday.
The first fatal accident occurred in Waikato on Te Rapa Rd, Horotiu around 5.30am.
Police said the driver died at the scene.
A motorcyclist also died after an accident in Auckland’s Flat Bush.

The accident, on Ti Irirangi Drive, occurred near Dawson Rd around 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
The road was closed while the serious accident unit is present and detours were made. The road reopened around 7 p.m.
At around 4.45am, police were called for an accident on Tower Rd in Waikato’s Matamata, where the seriously injured driver was airlifted to Waikato Hospital.
Cyclist seriously injured
Meanwhile, a cyclist was critically injured after being hit by a car at Whitford in Auckland.
Emergency services were called to Whitford Rd, at the intersection with Griggs Rd, at 12:45 pm.
Police said the rider was initially assessed to have serious injuries, but was now in critical condition.
Diversions were made around the scene of the accident and the serious accident unit will investigate the circumstances of the accident.
Police were called into a collision between a car and a power pole in Poroporo, near Whakatane, at 2.50 pm
A patient in serious condition was transferred to Tauranga Hospital by St John.
Police were still at the crash site at 4.30pm, a spokeswoman said.
Three people injured near Taupō
At around 3:30 p.m., police said a two-vehicle accident had blocked State Highway 5 in Iwitahi, near Taupō.
Three people were injured in the accident and motorists were asked to avoid the area.
Fire and Emergency Shift Manager Peter Stevenson said two people were trapped and released by firefighters.
Stevenson thought those two people were from the same vehicle.
The road cleared for motorists around 7pm.
‘Terrible weekend’ on the roads
Regarding the Waikato accidents, Inspector Jeff Penno, Waikato’s highway police manager, said it was “heartbreaking” when such incidents occurred.
“It’s been a terrible weekend,” Penno said.
“Our feelings go out to the families of those involved and also to the emergency services personnel responding to these horrendous incidents.”
