Police launched a homicide investigation after a woman was found dead in a car in south Auckland.

Officers were at the McNally Rd, Pukekohe property Wednesday to conduct a bail check when they found a man critically injured.

After a new search, they found the body of a woman in a car on the property.

An autopsy was completed Friday morning, police said.

“We are still completing the formal identification procedures. At this stage we cannot reveal the woman’s name. “

The man remains in critical condition at Middlemore Hospital, they said.

“We would like to reassure the Pukekohe community that while we have launched a homicide investigation into this matter, we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the woman’s death.

Police remain at the scene Thursday.
