A left elbow injury will knock out Black Caps captain Kane Williamson from the Bangladesh series.
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson will miss Bangladesh’s one-day international cricket series due to an elbow injury.
New Zealand Cricket confirmed that Williamson would not participate in all three ODIs, starting in Dunedin on Saturday week, to rehabilitate the injury that has troubled him all season.
In a statement, NZC confirmed that Williamson has a small tear in his left elbow tendon and had been experiencing irritation in the later half of the summer.

NZC Medical Manager Dayle Shackel said it was clear the injury now needed specific intervention.

“Kane has been managing the elbow injury to varying degrees this summer and has unfortunately not improved,” Shackel said.
“Obviously, he has a large volume of training and play in all three formats, which has inhibited his ability to recover. We believe that you now need a period of rest and rehabilitation to correct the injury.
“Timelines may vary, but we are hopeful that, after an initial break, rehab can begin next week.”
Williamson will likely not be seen for the rest of the summer at home, as he is likely rested for all three T20 internationals on March 28, 30 and April 1 anyway, while traveling to the Indian Premier League. .

Coach Gary Stead says the priority is preparing Kane Williamson for the England tour and the WTC final against India.
He will depart from that tournament directly to England, where the Black Caps will play India in the World Trials Championship final in Southampton on June 18-22, after two trials against the host nation.
Black Caps coach Gary Stead said it was a blow to lose their captain in the three-game ODI series against Bangladesh, but he knew it was the right decision.
“Kane loves to play for his country, so it has not been an easy decision to take a step back,” Stead said.
“A batter’s front elbow is crucial to his game and with the injury not improving, it was clear that something had to be done.
“We have a great cricket year ahead of us with a test tour in England and the ICC World Trials Championship final first in May and June, and we want to make sure Kane is fit and ready for that.
The Black Caps ODI team will be named Thursday morning.
