India defeated England by one inning and 25 runs in three days in Saturday’s fourth and final round and booked a spot in the World Test Championship final against New Zealand.

England capitulated 135 in the second inning against the spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin (5-47) and Axar Patel (5-48) in two sessions on the third day to lose the series 3-1.

Dan Lawrence (50) fought a tough battle to score a half century before Ashwin knocked him down for the win.

India was knocked out 365 before lunch and gained a 160-run lead.

Number 8 hitter Washington Sundar was stranded at 96 not out after India lost the last three wickets within five balls after he resumed at 294-7.

Left arm spinner Patel, who caught 11 wickets in the last test at the same spot in India’s 10-wicket victory in two days, ended the game with another impressive nine-wicket round in his hometown.

India recovered well to clinch the series after losing the opening event in Chennai.

The World Trials Championship final is at Lord’s in June.
