The undisclosed tenant living with a family in Auckland’s Covid-Feb 19 cluster worked as a door knocker.
His employer, Chorus, blew the whistle at health authorities after learning of the man’s connection to the group on Sunday, the day after the M and N cases tested positive, at which point he isolated himself at home. south of Auckland.
It is understood that health officials were unaware that the family had a guest prior to Sunday, a fact the family did not immediately disclose.
There have been no indications that the man committed any crime.

He is the only one in the family, who has at least two positive cases, who was not transferred to the Jet Park quarantine facility.

A Chorus spokeswoman said the man worked for the company that promotes door-to-door fiber services in Auckland, and was last working on Saturday.
“As soon as the individual became aware of any risk, he notified his employer, stopped participating in any field activities and immediately isolated himself,” the spokeswoman said.
“Chorus immediately notified the Auckland Ministry of Health, Regional Public Health and we, and his employer, are providing all the support that he and those agencies need.
“The individual returned a negative Covid result on Monday and has been isolating and following all instructions in accordance with Ministry of Health guidelines.”

The Auckland Regional Public Health Service discusses self-isolation requirements with all close contacts, but they are not required to go to the Jet Park, the ministry spokeswoman said.
The ministry spokeswoman avoided questions about the extent of the tenant’s supervision as they undertake self-isolation.

The Auckland February group now has 15 cases, nine of which were considered active on Thursday, in four families. Investigations into the origin of the infection continue.
