The driver crashed into a fence in Parklands, Christchurch, on Thursday morning.
A driver fled after crashing into a fence in suburban Christchurch, leaving an infant in the back seat of the damaged vehicle.
The accident occurred at the corner of Medina Cres and Mairehau Rd in Parklands around 10 a.m. Thursday.

The driver left the scene after the accident, a police spokeswoman said.
A child was left in the vehicle and was taken out by a family member, he said. The star reported that the child was a baby.
Melton Weeks, a resident of Mairehau Rd, said The star it appeared that the car was being chased before the accident occurred.
“I was in my car when I saw the silver car (Honda) and a blue Subaru behind it, and they were running around here,” he said.
The police spokeswoman said no injuries were reported.
Officers were still searching for the driver and working to establish what happened.
It was unclear if the vehicle had been stolen or what the driver had to do with the baby, the spokeswoman said.
Accident on the south highway
Meanwhile, a driver was uninjured when he hit a barrier on Christchurch’s South Freeway shortly after 2 p.m. Thursday.
The accident occurred near Lincoln Rd Overbridge.
A police spokeswoman said no injuries were reported.
The crash was still blocking the westbound right lane around 4 p.m. and drivers were warned to be careful.
