Auckland’s new head of Watercare will earn nearly $ 200,000 less a year than his predecessor.
Watercare President Margaret Devlin announced today that Jon Lamonte, CEO of transportation provider Sydney Metro, will join Watercare as CEO next month at a salary of $ 585,000. His predecessor, Raveen Jaduram, who was earning $ 775,000 a year when he resigned in August, was the highest paid Auckland Council executive, earning 30% more than the Council’s chief executive.
Lamonte’s salary is in line with the board’s policy that CEO salaries in all board-controlled organizations are lower than those of previous incumbents and the board’s chief executive officer.
Devlin said Lamonte brought “a wealth of experience to the position, not only from his time at Sydney Metro, but also from his extensive executive career.”
“The Board and I look forward to working with Jon as we embark on the next stage of the Watercare journey, which includes the delivery of an $ 8 billion capital program over the next 10 years, the ongoing drought response and the national water reform program, “he said.
Lamonte said he was “excited to come to New Zealand and forge a new life in Auckland and play my role in securing its future.”
A council statement says Lamonte has operational experience, serving in the Royal Air Force in the Falklands, the former Yugoslavia and Iraq. He adds that he was CEO of Tubelines in London before taking over all modes of transport in Manchester, and then converting the first tube line in Sydney from construction to operations.
Mayor Phil Goff said Lamonte “had an impressive career and brings to his new role considerable experience as a CEO and leader, and skills in managing large-scale businesses and operations.”
