A MP from the Auckland National Party says it is “useless” and “counterproductive” for people on social media to point the finger at the family caught in the latest community outbreak of Covid-19.
Health officials have discovered that two cases, now positive, of a family went to work and visited a vaporizer store when they were supposed to be isolated at home.
The family also organized a private home visit.
Botany deputy Christopher Luxon said potential critics should focus their efforts on keeping the virus at bay.
“We do not know all the facts of the situation, it is really the Government and health officials who will be aware of all this.
“At this point, what we should be doing is showing some compassion and understanding, what we can focus on is what we can do and how we choose to respond to that.”
Papatoetoe High School principal Vaughan Couillaut agrees, saying the family at the center of Auckland’s latest Covid-19 cluster must stay in peace to recover.
He is also urging people to be more compassionate.
“Until you know someone’s story, until you step into their shoes, you shouldn’t be too quick to judge.
“Those people making negative comments on social media should simply stop because these people did not get sick on purpose, this is not a deliberate effort on their part to harm everyone or be an inconvenience.”
