Tiger Woods was transferred to another Los Angeles hospital after undergoing surgery on his right leg after sustaining a serious injury in a car accident.

Harbor-UCLA Medical Center on Thursday (Friday New Zealand time) said Woods was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to “continue orthopedic care and recovery.”

The hospital did not provide further details, saying it was respecting patient confidentiality.

Mahajan previously said that Woods broke the tibia and fibula in his lower right leg in several places. These injuries were stabilized with a rod in the tibia. Additional injuries to the bones of the foot and ankle required screws and pins, Mahajan said in the statement posted on Woods’ Twitter account Tuesday night.

Woods was wearing a seatbelt and there was no evidence that he was affected by drugs or alcohol, Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said after the accident.

However, the accident investigation continues.

Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is a Level 1 trauma center, which means it is qualified to provide the most comprehensive surgical and other care for such injuries. Cedars-Sinai has a renowned Institute of Sports Medicine that has targeted professional athletes and a rehabilitation program for sports-related and orthopedic injuries.

The accident occurred on the border between the communities of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes. The county supervisor representing the area has requested a road safety review, where cars are known to pick up speed due to the steep incline and authorities have said accidents are common.

In 2017, Woods was arrested on a DUI charge when Florida police found him asleep at the wheel of his car awkwardly parked on the side of the road, with the engine still running, two flat tires and a blinker.

Woods said he had an unexpected reaction to pain relievers. He eventually pleaded guilty to a reduced reckless driving charge. Three weeks after the arrest, he entered a clinic seeking help dealing with prescription drugs and a sleep disorder.

This week’s accident was the latest setback for Woods, who has won 15 major championships and a record 82 wins on the PGA Tour. He is among the most recognized sports figures in the world and, at age 45, even with a shortened schedule of nine previous surgeries, he is still the biggest draw in golf.

He was in Los Angeles for the weekend hosting the Genesis Invitational tournament at Riviera Country Club. Monday and Tuesday had been set aside for him to give golf tips to celebrities in Discovery-property GOLFTV.
