The White Ferns’ losing streak has continued, in a familiar way.

After mustering just 178 batters first and losing by eight wickets in their first ODI match against England, today’s second ODI in Dunedin followed a similar script, as they hit 192 and were crushed by seven wickets as England crossed home with 12.2 overs to spare. .

The loss extends the White Ferns’ ODI-record losing streak to 11 games, and gives England an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series before Sunday’s ODI final.

Once again, the White Ferns were let down by their hitters, falling to 34-5 before a somewhat face-saving recovery but ultimately unsuccessful in tail order.

Brooke Halliday showed her promise again, hitting two fifty in two games with 60 of 80 balls, but while Halliday has been a rare, or perhaps unique, bright spot for the Ferns in this series, the hosts would surely prefer her, hitting in the No. 7, was not required to face 134 balls in the two games.

But, with the first order failing, Halliday has stepped up, while closers Hannah Rowe (29 without 45 balls) and Jess Kerr (28 with 30) added 53 for the ninth wicket to at least give themselves a plausibly defensible total to pitch to.

For a time, things looked promising. Danni Wyatt dragged the third installment of Kerr’s innings onto her stumps, and 10 balls later, Captain Heather Knight was left without terrible confusion.

At 12-2, the White Ferns were on the hunt, but a 103-run partnership between Tammy Beaumount (72 not out of 112) and Natalie Sciver (63 out of 61) ensured it would be a comfortable chase.

Halliday showed his full talent by lifting his first international wicket, Sciver caught in the middle of the wicket, but Amy Jones reached the area and quickly hit an undefeated 46 of 45 balls.

White Ferns captain Sophie Devine tested eight bowlers in an attempt to turn the tide, but England never had a problem when they finished the series and extended New Zealand’s misery.

Here’s how the match unfolded:
