OPINION: It was Jack who touched Lexie’s heart in the dramatic Bachelorette Party NZ, prompting an emotional outbreak that made Lexie cry in shock.
What happened? A small amount of time alone with Jack at the beginning of the cocktail party sent Lexie into a tailspin when she realized they had some kind of unspoken and “raw” connection, which was complicated because he was six years younger than her. It seems Lexie and Jack were absolutely blown away by said connection, which the more they described it, it sounded like a carnal desire to me, but I imagine that would have been too much to explain on national TV, and I don’t want to reduce their connection too to that. They also seem to have a genuine shared chemistry, and they make each other laugh. I generally side with Lexie when it comes to age difference, as I think women tend to be more mature than men, but in this case Jack seems like a very mature guy, perhaps the most mature of all. this season. Personally, I don’t think the age difference should have been a barrier, but in the end …
Jack bounced. Fair enough. He did it quite dramatically, turning on his heel and literally walking away from the rose ceremony before it began. It was great television. He expressed that he didn’t feel like he could get his family to meet Lexie if he wasn’t sure he was fully involved, which is a very sensible and wise decision, fair to him, his family, and Lexie.

But they could have had something! Perhaps, if they had spent more time together, and Lexie repeatedly expressed her frustration at being able to steal brief moments with Jack throughout the season, wondering if perhaps she had had more time with him, her decisions might be clearer, And she would know how it felt Hey it’s almost like High school The format is not conducive to forging genuine connections with potential lovers …
Who is left? Just Todd, Paul, Hamish, and Joe, who will now take Lexie back to meet their families. (I think it’s worth mentioning here that Jesse also bounced, wrapping up the most anticlimactic arc of this season.)
So tell me about the hometown dates. First it was Hamish, who took Lexie to Northland to fish and dive. Went wrong. They managed to catch only one young fish, which I suppose was just minding its own business before being unexpectedly swept up from the ocean, forced to kiss Lexie on the lips, and thrown into the sea. (I admit I’m showing my biases; as a child, my poor hearing meant that I was terrified of loud noises, including my grandfather’s boat. As a result, I have had traumatic associations with fishing throughout my life, and I I apologize for projecting this onto Hamish and Lexie.)
Did they get any kina? One.
Cute. Do not! Hamish was unable to start the ship after they found the kina, proving my point that we should never trust ships. Fortunately, with a little help and laughter, they got going again and were able to enjoy the kina on land while having lunch with Hamish’s family. Interestingly, Hamish’s father didn’t believe Lexie liked Kina, an incorrect belief he held over lunch; I couldn’t tell if he was doing a little bit or if he was just being a little mean.
But everything was fine. Hamish’s family was naturally delighted with Lexie, as were all of us.
What about Joe? Joe, who shares Hamish’s hometown, led Lexie to a picturesque waterfall, eliminating all previous anxiety that their chemistry might have been failing. I couldn’t help but smile as I imagined the cameraman having to squeeze behind the waterfall to capture Lexie and Joe kissing, but it was worth it for such a cinematic kiss.
How was the meeting with the family? Not so good. Joe’s friend Evie came in with an awkward comment about aphrodisiacs, while Joe’s mother disapproved of Lexie turning her back on Joe during lunch. I feel like that could be attributed to nerves – Lexie was trying to impress you guys, not Joe! But Joe’s mother seems quite protective of her son, and that raised a red flag for her.
We are until the end now. Only Paul and Todd’s home visits remain, then we head to the finish line.
