Emergency services were called to an incident in Hoon Hay, Christchurch around 5pm on Friday.

A preschooler has died after he was found unconscious in a working washing machine at a Christchurch home.

A police spokesman confirmed that emergency services were called for an incident in the suburb of Hoon Hay around 5 p.m. Friday. One person was injured and taken to hospital, where he later died, the spokesman said.

Things understands that the boy was found in a front-loading washing machine, which was on.

“The police are investigating the circumstances of the death and the coroner has been informed,” the police spokesman said.

Police said the boy’s death was not being treated as suspicious.

A large group of mourners were at Kāinga Ora’s property on Sunday.

A spokeswoman for Oranga Tamariki declined to comment on the boy’s death, citing that it was at the beginning of the police investigation.
