New Zealand’s next bachelor has been revealed, and he’s a very familiar face.

Moses Mackay of Sol3 Mio fame and co-host of the Flava’s Breakfast show will be handing out roses in hopes of meeting someone special on the new season of The Bachelor NZ.

Speaking to the Herald, Mackay talked about the moment he decided to go on the reality show’s fourth season, and it wasn’t an instant yes.

“Definitely not. That was the first thought that crossed my mind when I got the phone call,” says Mackay.

However, the 30-year-old musician changed his mind when he thought more about the opportunity and exposing himself, plus the pandemic means he doesn’t travel as much playing international concerts.

“I sat down with it, processed it, and thought, ‘Life is about adventure, why not?'”

He admits that his bandmates and cousins, Pene and Amitai, laughed quite a bit when he told them the news.

“They laughed, laughed, and urged me to do it. Mainly because they wanted to watch the show and laugh,” but he adds that his Sol3 Mio bandmates “100 percent support” his decision to go on the show.

This particular adventure will see Mackay looking for love in a very public way, but somehow, he’s used to being the center of attention. Mackay competed on Celebrity Treasure Island in 2019 and it gave her a glimpse of being on reality TV.

“I have no control over how they portray me,” he says, speaking of his attitude before filming the show.

“I said to myself, ‘if it’s just me,’ all they can represent is the version of me they see.”

When asked if there was a serenade in store when he meets his special someone on the show, Mackay admits that he has not seen The Bachelorette NZ, the female-led version of the show now showing, so he is unable to speak to the failed song of this. season.

“Being me, you will probably hear me sing!”

Mackay shares that he’s been in love before, so he knows how it feels to connect with someone special.

“A lot of creatives will connect with this. I guess we live a unique life,” adds Mackay.

“I am grateful enough to have traveled the world and seen so many interesting things and performed all over the place. Potentially I haven’t had a lot of time to dedicate to being in a relationship.

“I feel like I spend a lot of time giving to my family and friends and I am always giving to other people.

“But I have never given myself the opportunity to be in love.

“I know what the feeling is. So I’m not filming in the dark. But, life does this where you go ahead and grow, you evolve. So yeah, now I ended up doing a TV show, which is still strange to me! “

What is Moisés looking for in The Bachelor?

Mackay has given readers an idea of the kind of woman he’s looking for on the show.

“For me, I look for kindness and compassion, and all those wonderful traits in people.”

“I’m a pretty empathetic person, so I can recognize when someone is not really viable.”

He tells the Herald that his ideal first date is one where two people can get to know each other well, and he’s not a fan of going to the movies for a first date for that reason.

Instead, a “cool dinner or adventure” is more his style.

Art Green is back to introduce the new season, following his performance as host on the second season of The Bachelorette NZ, which is airing now. He married Matilda Green (née Rice), whom he met in the first season of the New Zealand version of the franchise.

If he finds the right spark and perhaps a soulful song, Mackay could be lucky in love too.
