Pekerau Primary School on Te Rahu Rd in Te Awamutu was closed for a short period.
Te Awamutu police arrested a man who caused a closure at a local elementary school.
Police were called around 2:25 pm to receive reports of a robbery on Te Rahu Rd on a residential property near the Pekerau school.
The criminals left the place on foot towards the school.
A police statement said there was initial information suggesting a firearm may have been involved.

The school and the nearby early learning center were asked to keep their students inside for a while.
Stuff understand that some parents were locked up with teachers at school.
Police were able to identify a person of interest and arrested her around 3.30pm
Police found nothing to suggest a firearm was involved.
The school and early learning center were informed around 4pm that they could release their students.
The man is due to appear in Hamilton Juvenile Court Friday on an aggravated robbery charge. Police are still trying to locate the second person involved.
Police officers will conduct patrols in the area on Friday to help ensure the safety of local residents.
