There will be no races on Sunday after Ineos Team UK clinched a place in the Prada Cup final with a thrilling win over Luna Rossa.

In the best race of the regatta so far, Sir Ben Ainslie led his team across the line ahead of the Italians to remain undefeated, a race that saw nine lead changes and top speeds exceeding 50 knots.

Both ‘ghost’ races against American Magic, who were unable to compete, were successfully completed confirming the British victory.

Ineos Team UK will not sail tomorrow, with the scheduled race against Luna Rossa redundant after their victory.

With strong winds expected tomorrow, Ineos Team UK decided not to risk damaging their boat and chose not to sail. Luna Rossa still plans to sail at some point.

The British will now have a full three weeks to develop their ship and prepare for the final, while Luna Rossa only has six days to fine tune her AC75 before her semi-final race against American Magic who are racing against time to repair their ship. to the starting line.

The seven-race semi-final, the first knockout phase of the Prada Cup, begins on Friday, January 29.

The semi-final winner faces Ineos Team UK in the 13-race Prada Cup final, which will determine the challenger who will face Team New Zealand in the America’s Cup match.
