A retirement village has been evacuated near Perth and some residents are waiting to leave their homes due to large out-of-control wildfires.
Australian firefighters are trying to control several fires burning near Perth and in Western Australia.
A wildfire emergency warning exists for Perth’s southern outer suburbs, including Kwinana Beach and surrounding areas, due to a major fire that poses a threat to lives and homes.
The fire started in the suburb of Orelia and was burning rapidly in a west-northwest direction, ABC reported citing the fire service.

“It mainly moves through some brush, but it is heading towards heavy infrastructure,” District Officer Adrian Hamill told ABC.
The fire has also spread to a landfill in the area that burns and fills the air with hazardous material. Residents of Beard Street to the north, Rockingham Road to the east, Thomas Road to the south and the coast have been warned that it is too late to leave their homes and that dangerous gases are in the air.
“People in the area should stay indoors, out of smoke or fumes, with doors and windows closed. The air conditioners must also be off, ”warns a state government emergency website.
People are also urged to stay away from the area.
Another forest fire in southeast Perth prompted the evacuation of a retirement village. About 60 residents were evacuated from their homes at the facility. An evacuation center has been established in the Gosnells area.
A different fire is also raging in the northern part of Karloo in Geraldton, which is located about 400 kilometers north of Perth. The blaze was described out of control and unpredictable Sunday night, according to ABC. However, as firefighters brought the blaze under control, the alert level was lowered to a wildfire watch and they took action Monday morning.
Some residents are still waiting to leave their homes due to the changing conditions, and total fire bans are now in place in the Geraldton areas.
There is also a storm warning for a large part of the Perth metropolitan area due to the severe weather forecast.
According to the emergency website, strong, gusty winds are forecast to cause damage to houses in the Lower West district on Monday.
