The order applies to Naseby, Patearoa, Ranfurly, and Omakau.
A spokeswoman for the Otago Central District Council said not to fill the sink to wash dishes and not to do laundry.
Toilet flushing was not recommended in Naseby and Patearoa and portaloos were dispatched to municipalities this morning.
They will be located in Naseby at the campground and next to the public restrooms on Derwent St, on Earne Street and at the swimming dam; and in Patearoa outside the pub.
There are water tankers at the campsite and Derwent St at the Naseby Public Baths.
In Pateroa, the tanker trucks are at the intersection of Churnside and McSkimming Road (near the beginning of the walking / restroom trail).
The council said that due to the dirty rivers from heavy rains, the council was unable to treat the water.
“We are going to use what is left in the reservoirs for these supplies. We need you to conserve the water to reduce the chances that we will have to issue notices to boil the water.
“So put off the laundry for a day or two, let the dishes pile up a bit,” if it’s yellow, leave it soft. “If everyone does their part to cut down, there will be a difference.”
The council said contractors are working to turn the water back on.
They will be located in Naseby at:
x5 camping
x3 next to the public toilets on Derwent Street
