With Covid-19 wreaking havoc around the world, many of us are eager to keep our health in check in 2021.

While many of us indulged ourselves during the lockdown, a diet guru has revealed that there are ways to continue enjoying our 2020 binge this year while keeping the calorie count in the green.

Terri-Ann Nunns says you can still have fun and reach your health goals at the same time.

“You can make some really simple changes to ensure your calorie intake is lowered without putting a damper on your holiday spirits,” he told The Sun.

Now he has shared his top seven alcohol exchanges to help us enjoy ourselves without feeling guilty or putting on the pounds.

His list also reveals a popular drink that is worse for you than a McDonald’s hamburger.

1. EXCHANGE A LARGE GLASS OF WINE FOR PROSECCO

Celebrating with bubbles instead of a big glass of wine will cut calories dramatically.

“A large glass of wine contains 220 calories, while a glass of prosecco has only 85 calories,” Nunns said.

“It is often found that the sugar content may be lower in prosecco, which, again, gives it an advantage when it comes to calories.

“A glass of prosecco will give you 1.5 units of alcohol, while a large glass of wine will probably have around three units.”

2. EXCHANGE A PAINT OF BEER FOR A BOTTLE OF BEER

It is a fairly simple solution. A pint of beer has 210 calories, while a bottle has 140.

“The term ‘beer belly’ doesn’t exist for no reason. Beer can be a huge contributor to weight gain,” Nunns said.

3. WORSE THAN MCDONALD’S: REPLACE LONG ISLAND ICE TEA WITH A BLOODY MARY

Many of us love cocktails. But it’s probably a good idea to save your Long Island iced tea.

The popular drink contains a whopping 400 calories.

“Regardless of the potential for an impending hangover, the calorie content of this drink is more than a McDonald’s cheeseburger.

“If you want to go for a healthier cocktail, choosing something like a Bloody Mary would mean that you would consume far fewer calories and could even consume two of your five per day (vegetable servings) if you are drinking 150 ml of tomato juice and if you eat celery after “.

4. CHANGE GIN AND TONIC FOR GIN AND SLIMLINE TONIC

Switching your mixer to a sugar-free alternative will drastically cut calories.

A regular gin and tonic has 100 calories and a slim tonic only 60.

“If you’re trying to control your weight, this is a really easy change to make and the taste is pretty much the same.”

5. EXCHANGE THE DESSERT WINE FOR A GLASS OF SHERRY

Most of us love desert wine, but it’s about 118 calories.

A glass of sherry contains only 60.

6. CHANGE WHISKEY FOR VODKA

A single shot of whiskey, which is equivalent to a 25 ml measure, has approximately 64 calories.

For a healthier change, choose vodka served as a single measure. A 25 ml pour has approximately 50 calories.

“A double scoop with a sweet blender like Coca-Cola is around 170 calories per pop, which is more than a schooner of beer,” experts from Glamor magazine said.

“So go for single shots and mix with local soda and fresh lime instead.”
