Search and Rescue volunteers searching for a Wellington teenager who disappeared from the Rhythm and Vines music festival found the body of a young man.

Fletcher Wong, 19, of Wellington, was last seen leaving the admissions area at the Gisborne site around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

In a statement Wednesday afternoon, police said LandSAR volunteers had found the body of a young man in the Ormond area of ​​Gisborne.

The man has been identified as Wong, who was reported missing on Tuesday.

Police expressed their condolences to Fletcher’s family and friends and are providing support.

On Thursday afternoon, about 40 people, including police officers, search and rescue volunteers and friends of Wong and whanau participated in the search, which included nearby Gray’s Bush.

Wong was wearing a black hoodie and shorts when he disappeared, police said.

Rhythm and Vines said in a statement on its website that it was working closely with authorities and would act on the advice of the police.

The statement described Wong in a black “Champion” branded hoodie, gray sweatpants and white Nike Air-force 1 sneakers.

Wong had his black iPhone 10 cell phone at the time of the disappearance, the statement said.
