Police are seeking information related to an assault during a street fight that left a person in critical condition in Palmerston North.

A street fight in Palmerston North has left a man hospitalized in critical condition and police have urged anyone with information to come forward.

A big fight broke out near the Berrymans Lane entrance on Broadway Ave at 3.15am Sunday.

A man in his 20s was knocked unconscious during the fight and was kicked in the head while lying on the ground, Detective Sgt. Daniel Basuttin said.

Paramedics took him to Palmerston North Hospital before he was transferred to Wellington Hospital.

He has undergone multiple surgeries for head injuries and remains in the intensive care unit in critical condition.

“Police are looking for witnesses who were on Broadway Avenue at the time of the incident and who may have seen the fight,” Basuttin said.

Witnesses are urged to call the police at 105 and cite file number 201231/2881.
