All of the cases announced Thursday were detected in managed isolation facilities.

Five previously reported cases have been recovered, bringing the total number of active cases in New Zealand to 55.

The ministry has issued an additional reminder to use the Covid tracking app to scan QR codes and activate Bluetooth.

On Monday, Covid Response Minister Chris Hipkins said that use of the app had been “regrettable” so far during the summer holidays.

“I would tell New Zealanders that there is a reason we are asking you to keep doing this. It’s to make sure that if we need to get in touch with tracking, we can quickly remove any Covid-19 that gets here, “he said.

The new cases occur when the world turns one year since the world was alerted to the coronavirus.

While there were reports of Covid-19 cases in the final months of 2019, it was on December 31 that 27 mysterious cases of viral pneumonia were reported to the World Health Organization (WHO) in Wuhan, China.
