Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton has received a knighthood for his services to motorsports.
In 2020, the 35-year-old Briton equaled Michael Schumacher’s record of seven Formula One world titles, was a staunch supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement and tested positive for Covid-19.
His knighthood was placed on the Diplomatic and Overseas List as he has not resided permanently in the UK since 2007.
His record title came in Turkey in November, and he won 11 races in the 2020 season in total.
“I could only have dreamed of being where I am today,” Hamilton said in November when he equaled Schumacher’s record.
“It’s going to take some time to fully sink in. I can’t find the words right now.”
This year he also surpassed Schumacher’s record of 91 wins with his win in Portugal in October.

Lewis, the only black driver in the sport, has also been a staunch supporter of Black Lives Matter, using his podiums to show his support for the movement that rose to prominence following the death of black man George Floyd in police custody in the United States. . in May and sparked protests around the world.

Taylor was a black emergency medical worker who was shot to death by police serving a search warrant for narcotics at her home on March 13. The shooting has sparked months of protests in Louisville, Kentucky, with calls for officers to be charged with his death.
“Justice for Breonna Taylor,” Hamilton said during her interview after winning her 90th race.
In December, Hamilton said he was “grateful to be alive” after returning from a positive COVID-19 test to compete and finishing third at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
He tested positive for Covid-19 a day after winning in Bahrain in November and was forced to spend 10 days in isolation before a negative test set him free to travel to Abu Dhabi.
