A bride and her family have been fined for violating strict stay-at-home orders for a wedding in Sydney’s financial district when images surfaced of the newlyweds celebrating their big day.
Girlfriend Diana Falasca is among 19 people who have been fined for violating coronavirus restrictions by leaving the northern beaches and venturing to Pyrmont’s site, Doltone House.
The girlfriend, from Beacon Hill, was fined $ 1000 after a tip off to police.
Several members of Ms. Falasca’s family and wedding party were also fined, but groom Mark Bonifacio did not violate any health rules and has not been fined.
New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian criticized the “blatant” violation of COVID-19 restrictions by the North Beaches group.
“That’s the kind of behavior that puts everyone at risk,” Berejiklian said.
“All of us are shaking our heads, absolutely horrified that this happened.”
New images show the couple arriving to meet their guests at the venue, dancing in the doorway with their hands in the air.
Other photos from the event show guests huddling around the wedding table to celebrate with the bride and groom.
Family members told Nine News that the couple had already been forced to cancel their wedding twice, and any further cancellation would have cost “tens of thousands of dollars.”
Police Minister David Elliott also condemned the couple’s actions as “a bastard act” and said he had no sympathy.
“You have been living in an area where there has been a conglomerate, endangering the rest of the city,” he said earlier in the week on breakfast television.
“You are certainly putting the health and safety of your fellow men at risk because you are going to attend a wedding.”
Other images and recordings taken by a nearby resident show at least 40 wedding guests hanging out in an outdoor area of the event space at Jones Bay Wharf.
Guests who were issued sanction violation notices included a man and a woman, both 43 years old, from Allambie Heights, a 27-year-old man from Frenchs Forest, and five people between 19 and 63 years old from Beacon Hill. .
Three other people, a man and a woman in their 30s from Frenchs Forest and a 26-year-old man from Beacon Hill, were also fined.
There are some exceptions to leaving the northern beaches, but attending a wedding is not one of them.
Doltone House issued a statement Tuesday, stating that all guests had logged into the venue via the Service NSW QR code.
“If Doltone House had been informed that anyone attending the wedding was doing so in violation of government restrictions, then it would have taken all necessary steps to protect the health and safety of its guests and the community at large.” the statement read.
