A man has been taken into custody following a homicide in the eastern Bay of Plenty.
A homicide investigation was launched after the death of a man who was seriously injured in an assault on Christmas Eve.
Emergency services were called to a Nukuhou property around 5 pm on December 24 following an incident of disorder.
Three men were taken to hospital, two with serious injuries and one with critical injuries.
The seriously injured man, in his 40s, sadly died from his injuries on December 26.
A 35-year-old man has been charged with injuring with intent to cause serious bodily harm.
He has been placed in pretrial detention and his next appearance in Whakatane District Court on January 20.
Investigations are ongoing and several people are helping the police with information; however, the police would like to hear from anyone who has not yet spoken to the police and knows something that may be helpful to the police investigation.
