It appears that a multi-vehicle accident will close several lanes on Auckland’s Harbor Bridge heading north.
A police spokeswoman says lanes three and four could be closed while emergency services work to clear the lanes.
They were called into the accident shortly before 6.40 pm and she was unaware that the motorists suffered injuries.
NZTA has confirmed that there are still two northbound lanes open and has warned motorists to expect “major delays” in the area.
A motorist passing the scene heading south said he saw about half a dozen cars “nose to tail” at the top of the bridge around 6.35pm.
He said several people were out of their cars and “circling” on the bridge and that at least four of the cars were “hit.”
Traffic was piling up behind the crashed cars, he said, as there was no way for them to pass.
St John confirmed that he had also been called to the scene.
