One winner said that the prize money had allowed him to help his loved ones.
“I bought a new house that we recently moved into and have helped family and friends,” he said.
“I know it sounds cliché, but it has completely changed our lives. I can do everything I had imagined doing in my life now and it helps me build a better future for my children and my family. “
The other winner recently bought a vacation bach after paying off his mortgage.
“I bought a property in my happy place that I am excited about,” they said.
“I can’t wait to create memories there with the kids because that’s what this is all about – the huge smiles on their faces when we share special memories.”
The $ 50 million Powerball jackpot is the largest in history and was the first time Powerball reached a must-win drawing since November 2016.
Lotto NZ spokeswoman Marie Winfield said there were 28 Powerball winners in 2020, which is the most Lotto has had in a single year.
“We talk to the winners all the time and helping the people in their lives and the charities close to their hearts has always been a priority for them,” he said.
“Winning big has a huge ripple effect; given that 2020 has been a difficult year for many, it is wonderful to know how much difference it makes in the lives of our winners, their loved ones and their local communities.”
Lotto has distributed over $ 617,282,299 in prizes in 2020 so far.
