Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola saw his team’s game at Everton postponed due to a cluster of Covid-19 cases at his club.

The Premier League clash between Manchester City and Everton was postponed due to more Covid-19 cases within the club.

Three days after City players Kyle Walker and Gabriel Jesus tested positive, City announced that a new round of testing had yielded more positive results.

As a result, their first leg against Everton was canceled on Monday night (Tuesday New Zealand time).

“After the latest round of Covid-19 testing, the club returned a number of positive cases, in addition to the four already reported on Christmas Day,” City said in a statement Monday.

“With the security of the bubble compromised, there was a risk that the virus would spread further between equipment, personnel, and potentially beyond.

“Based on strong medical advice, the Premier League, in consultation with both clubs, has decided to postpone the match.

“All positive cases involving players and staff will observe a period of self-isolation in accordance with the quarantine protocol of the Premier League and the UK government. The first team training ground at City Football Academy will be closed for an indeterminate period, and the team and associated bubble will undergo testing before a decision is made to resume training.
