Armed police are searching the North Shore suburb of Northcote Point after a member of the public reported seeing someone with a weapon in the area.
Two people were arrested after police recovered two guns amid an armed search in the upscale North Shore suburb of Northcote Point.
Police said they had brought firearms charges against a 30-year-old man while other charges were being considered.
Residents of the affluent Auckland area were ordered to lock their doors and stay inside after a report of someone with a weapon in the area.
Armed police officers were deployed and the police eagle helicopter was dispatched in search of a person of interest.

A police spokeswoman said they received a report from a member of the public who believed he saw two people, one with a gun, around 1.40pm, on Sulfur Beach Rd in Northcote Point.
She said the two men left in a vehicle.
“According to the information provided, the police conducted investigations a short time later at a property on Onewa Road.”
Two firearms were located and several people are assisting the police with their inquiries at the address.
Police said officers were still at the scene, making inquiries and that the roads were reopened.
A search warrant had been executed in the area, but police could not confirm whether the two events were related.
A witness said he saw armed police officers in the area as he tried to get his children inside.
Another said police have closed the area and officers with assault rifles are guarding the entrance on Bruce St.
Said traffic is being diverted.

The 30-year-old is due to appear in North Shore District Court on January 6.
