The toll already matches the death toll during the entire Christmas and New Year period last year.
“He was a naturally talented athlete who loved his rugby. A former Maori U-18 player from New Zealand, he played for a New South Wales national team last year, before returning home to play for the Waitematā Rugby Club first team. He was a roofing apprentice who was working hard to complete his professional training and to support his young family.
“Our world has been turned upside down and upside down. This is supposed to be a holiday season of festive bliss and instead we are crying and grieving. “
Muru-Teutau is survived by his partner and daughter, his parents, brothers and sisters, and his broader whānau.
The accident was reported around 6 a.m. M. Del Boxing Day and occurred on Triangle Rd, between Lincoln Rd and Waimumu Rd, in Henderson.

Two other people were also injured as a result of the accident.
Another accident followed on Christmas Day in South Auckland, where two people were killed when a car collided with a power pole on Clevedon-Kawakawa Rd in Clevedon, around 7:30 p.m.
The incident brought down power lines and an examination of the scene was conducted.
Inspector Jason Homan said it was the second serious accident involving a car in the Counties Manukau area on Christmas Day.
“In both crashes, high speed seems to have been a factor,” Homan said.
“We don’t want to see any more lives lost in this holiday period. We kindly ask people to slow down, put on their seat belts and do not drive if they have been drinking or are fatigued. “
