The wedding day of Newcastle Knights captain Mitchell Pearce is on hold after an alleged drama involving racy text messages and a young club staff member.

The wedding day was canceled a few days before the event after alleged inappropriate text messages to a young employee of the club.

Pearce was scheduled to marry partner Kristin Scott on Tuesday in front of 150 family and friends, including some of the biggest names in the NRL.

But in a report by The Daily Telegraph that has been confirmed by SMH, the star was “caught sending flirty text messages to a young Knights employee.”

Knights media chief Frank Barrett told the Telegraph that “the Newcastle Knights are aware of the problem, but it is a private matter between the two individuals,” and the club will not comment further.

Pearce also responded when contacted by the newspaper, saying the couple had not canceled but postponed.

“It’s Covid friend … and it’s private,” he said.

“We’re fixing things. It’s a really stressful time for us. It’s our business, nobody else’s.”

It was also reported that the text messages were as far as they had come with a source close to the club saying, “There was nothing physical.

Pearce and Scott got engaged to the NRL star in April by posting a photo of the couple on Instagram with the caption “My forever. Best time of my life.”

Pearce has been among the top halves of the NRL, having played 19 games for NSW.

He played 11 seasons with the Sydney Roosters, including the club’s victory in the first division in 2013.

He joined the Knights after being expelled from the Roosters after the club signed Cooper Cronk from the Melbourne Storm.

But it has also been a big part of the Newcastle club’s resurrection in recent seasons, as the club’s captain since 2018, as the Knights reached the final for the first time since 2013 this season.

However, his career has not been without scandal with an incident at Kings Cross in 2014 and the infamous Australia Day incident in 2016.

The 31-year-old is currently in negotiations with the Knights and was looking to join the club for another five years, according to SMH.
