Mariah Carey’s ever-popular Christmas song has set a new record for single-day streaming on Spotify.

In a development that makes sense given the date and all, Mariah Carey’s All I want for Christmas is you broke Spotify’s record for most broadcasts in a single day.

The new mark to aim for is now set at 17,223 million, and in case you’re not clear, it was set on Christmas Eve.

In reaction to a Chart Data tweet pointing out this accomplishment, Carey expressed her appreciation for the large number of people who still really love that song.

As she said, “I know people think I’m making ‘coins’ (little secret: artists do very little with broadcasts), but the real reason I’m sitting here in awe and gratitude is to see the joy of this. Little song I wrote. Bring people in. THANK YOU AND MERRY CHRISTMAS !!! “

The track first appeared at Carey’s Merry Christmas album, released in late October 1994 (this may or may not make you feel old).

TMZ reports that, as of 2017, Carey had made around $ 60 million (NZ $ 84 million) from the song, although it is unclear how much she makes each year.

Based on his tweet, it doesn’t seem like much is coming from streaming services. But congratulations anyway.
