Official figures show that the police’s most active and profitable mobile speed camera van is parked on State Highway 1 through Wellsford.

A mobile speed camera parked between Davies and School highways, a 50 km / h zone, has issued 18,294 tickets since January 2018, worth $ 1.135 million.

The chamber location has issued more than twice as many fines as the next most prolific location during that three-year period.

The summer vacation period is the most common time for motorists to be ticketed through Wellsford.

In December of last year, 3,846 fines worth $ 173,660 were issued.

That’s 124 tickets and $ 5,600 in fines every day.

The mobile speed camera handed out fines worth $ 123,340 in January 2019 and fines worth $ 85,280 in January this year, while issuing thousands of fines.

Further north, State Highway 1 west of Kawakawa is New Zealand’s most profitable 100km / h stretch of highway.

Between Moerewa and Pakaraka, mobile cameras have issued fines worth $ 447,000 to 3,764 drivers.

The next highest amount on the open road is State Highway 1 between Taihape and Hunterville, where tickets worth $ 375,760 were issued to 4656 drivers.

Fines increase dramatically during the summer months as people leave for the Christmas or New Year holidays.
