Singer Courtney Love has made alarming claims about the resources available to wealthy people as the deadly coronavirus pandemic continues to spread globally.
The 56-year-old London-based former Hole lead singer, worth an estimated $ 130 million, posted a photo of a different Covid test to any of her followers, explaining that she was sharing it “because I’ve never been great on this 1 percent shit. “
“I have and many of my wealthy friends have had access to Covid test kits for over 6 months. Every time I give people without the same money or access as me a box of 20 I get mad because they are not available at every Tesco and every 7/11 in my two countries (and around the world too) for $ 5 or even $ 20, “he wrote.
Love explained the Covid home test kits that are tested for virus and antibodies. He went on to point out that testing is more important than ever, given London’s new “mutant strain” of coronavirus, which is reportedly 70 percent more infectious.
“If the tests … were available and cheap, people would still make tons of money and? This shit would stop. Billions and maybe billions could be saved in the world economy.”
“So … maybe I’ll get kicked out of the ‘club’ for posting this. But I’ve never felt so comfortable with my own elitism, especially in the public health area. EVERYONE DESERVES TO HAVE A TEST BOX IN YOUR FRIDGE! asking why the hell don’t you do it. ” she wrote.
Love concluded by saying that she felt “less dirty” and that she had cleared her conscience a bit by sharing the information publicly, “although it also scares me (sic).”
Many of Love’s fans reacted in disbelief to the revelation that the home test kits had been available to the wealthy for six months.
“I didn’t even know this existed … I had to wait in line at the drive-thru for a couple of hours and then 5 days to get results,” wrote one follower.
“Thanks for sharing this. It’s a revelation for sure. In the meantime, the rest of us waited up to two weeks to see the results and we can’t go to work in the meantime,” wrote another.
“Wow this is really deep, I had no idea there was Covid testing at home. You’re right, it should be available to everyone,” said another.
NPR reports that the US Food and Drug Administration last week authorized the first coronavirus test that people will be able to buy locally without a prescription to be tested at home. It is expected to cost around $ 30 and will be available next month.
Love’s public admission comes as the number of coronavirus cases around the world continues to rise, with many people facing long lines for tests and nervous hopes for the results. The UK has seen more than 2 million coronavirus cases and 67,000 deaths since the pandemic began, while Love’s home country of the United States has seen more than 18 million cases and 325,000 deaths.
