Three teenagers were shocked after they were reportedly robbed at gunpoint near St Luke’s shopping center in Mount Albert, Auckland.

Detective Sergeant Major Scott Armstrong of the Auckland City Crime Squad said police attended an aggravated robbery incident near Morningside around 7.15pm Monday.

“The incident occurred near the intersection of Morningside De and Sainsbury Rd,” Armstrong said.

The mother of one of the children wrote a post on Facebook warning parents to “keep their children safe.”

“My teenage son and his two friends were stopped by another group of about seven teenagers on their way home from shopping at St Luke’s … and they stayed near their shoes, clothes and phones.

“When they initially did not turn it in they thought that at most they could be involved in a fight, however they pointed a gun at them until they turned in all their things,” he said in the post.

Armstrong confirmed that three teens were approached by a larger group of people and received threats against them, before their personal belongings were stolen.

“The police were informed that one of these criminals presented a firearm,” he said.

Armed police personnel responded to this incident and then located the six involved in the incident, all young, at the nearby Morningside train station.

“They were arrested and the police also recovered the property stolen at that time.”

Armstrong said police had not located any firearms.

“Fortunately, the three victims were not injured in this incident, however they are understandably shocked by the incident.”

Police are currently conducting further investigations, however the matter will be referred to Youth Aid.
