The funeral of the couple who died in a helicopter crash north of Kaikōura is planned for next week.

Canterbury pilot Andrew Davidson, 60, and his wife Lin Chen were killed when their EC120 helicopter spun out of control and crashed when he landed at The Store cafeteria and camp in Kekerengu for lunch just before 1pm on Tuesday. past.

His two sons, along with a friend from school, were seriously injured in the accident.

A service for the couple will be held at Westpark Chapel in Christchurch on Wednesday, December 23, followed by a private cremation.

The funeral announcement made a special thanks to the emergency services and volunteers who helped provide help and care at the scene.

Donations to the Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue Trust were welcomed and can be made at the service.

An initial inspection of the site was carried out as part of a larger investigation into the circumstances of the accident, before the helicopter wreckage was removed from the beach on Wednesday.

The investigation will include a look at the effectiveness of the tail rotor on the helicopter.
