Where would Justin Timberlake be today if Michael Jackson hadn’t passed away? Justified?

In a new interview on the Revolt TV podcast Drinking champions, producer Pharrell Williams recalled with NORE and DJ EFN about his storied career, including his Superthug collaboration and being rejected by both Prince and Michael Jackson.

“Michael rejected us too,” Pharrell shared, after telling podcast hosts how Prince went through one of his tracks.

NORE chimed in to share her memory of a call she had with Pharrell at the time. “You hit me and you said, ‘I just sent some beats to Michael Jackson,’” he recalls.

“John McClain was his manager at the time,” Pharrell continued. “We send you almost all the things you are listening to in the Justified album. That’s all for Michael. “

Justified It is now better known as Justin Timberlake’s debut album in 2002. But according to the Neptune producer, all the songs but one were originally created for the King of Pop.

“All but one song, all were written for Michael,” he said.

But Jackson wasn’t interested. Instead, I wanted something more like Pharrell’s iconic 1998 track with NORE.

“John McClain said, ‘Man Michael doesn’t want that …'” Pharrell recalled. “‘He wants that … you’re giving Noreaga … he wants that’ Superthug ‘.”
