The Court of Appeal refused yesterday to continue with the removal of the 28-year-old’s name after 11 a.m. today.
But this morning, the lawyer for the convicted murderer presented an urgent notice of appeal to the highest court in New Zealand, for the repression to continue.
The Supreme Court has issued an order granting that request, pending further court order.
However, in the decision of the Court of Appeal, it has dismissed his appeal against his conviction and sentence, rejecting his candidacy for a new trial.
In a statement issued today by the Millane family, they claim to be “pleased with the result that has been achieved.”
“We would also like to thank the people of New Zealand for the love and support they have shown Grace and our family over the past two years.”
“Grace was a kind and fun-loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, aunt, cousin and friend, with her whole life ahead of her.
“She was enjoying the first of what would have been a life of adventure before her killer so cruelly and brutally cut off her life.”
