It seems that even being the Top Car of 2020 can’t protect you from recalls.

Toyota has confirmed that the new Yaris has been affected by two separate recalls, one affecting the hybrid system on the relevant hatchback and Cross cars and the other relating to the rear center seat belts on some Yaris Cross models.

The hybrid system recall affects 513 Yaris and Yaris Cross Hybrid vehicles manufactured between October 2019 and September 2020, and owners should be contacted by Toyota New Zealand by letter.

Toyota has discovered a fault in the hybrid system that powers versions of the new Yaris, resulting in a recall.

Toyota has discovered a fault in the hybrid system that powers versions of the new Yaris, resulting in a recall.

According to a statement, the problems stem from a problem with the transmission’s intake damper, which could suffer from “improper application of anti-corrosion oil to the transmission damper.” [which] it can cause abnormal skidding during rapid acceleration. “

The Yaris Cross is also being affected by a separate recall related to its center rear seatbelt.

The Yaris Cross is also being affected by a separate recall related to its center rear seatbelt.

Meanwhile, 392 Yaris Cross vehicles are being recalled to address an issue affecting the center rear seat belt anchor bracket on models built between July and October 2020.

This is a precautionary measure to repair the center rear seat belt due to a possible problem associated with the finished edge of the seat belt bracket. There is the potential for seat belt straps to be damaged during a collision, reducing restraint effectiveness.

Both repairs will be performed by Toyota stores free of charge, and the seat belt repair will take one hour. The hybrid system takes nine hours to work, so borrowing a vehicle from Toyota might be helpful if that affects you.
