Lydia Ko bursts into the top 10 after flashing in the second round at seven under par

A brilliant second round has thrown Lydia Ko into contention in the season-ending LPGA event at Tiburon Golf Club.

The New Zealand golfer shot a staggering seven under 65 to be five under par after the first two rounds, four strokes behind CME Group Tour Championship Jin Young Ko.

Starting the day tied for 59th, Lydia Ko made five birdies in the last nine before adding two more in the first nine during a bogey-free second round to improve a whopping 49 places in the standings.

They are now tied 3-way for 10th place and are in pursuit of a championship they last won in 2014.

“Much better than yesterday so I hope there is a good momentum going into the weekend,” Ko said.
