‘What a surprise’: Dr. Jill Biden responds to attack on PhD

Dr. Jill Biden has reacted to the controversial Wall Street Journal opinion piece in which the writer attacked her for using the honorary title of “doctor.”

Dr. Biden is a PhD with a Ph.D. in addition to her two Master’s degrees.

In an opinion piece published by the Wall Street Journal last week, titled “Is There a Doctor in the White House? Not If You Need a Doctor,” a man named Joseph Epstein suggested that Dr. Biden should not refer to herself. as a doctor, despite her Ph.D.

He referred to the future First Lady of the United States as a “kiddo” in the article and said she “should think about dropping the honorific, which feels fraudulent, even comical.”

Dr. Biden and her husband, President-elect Joe Biden, spoke with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show yesterday, and Dr. Biden admitted that the article caught her off guard.

“It was a big surprise,” he told the talk show host.

“And it was really the tone … He called me a kid,” added Dr. Biden.

“One of the things I am most proud of is my PhD, I worked very hard to get it.”

Despite the controversy, Dr. Biden was able to see the bright side and focus on all the people who came to her defense.

“Look at the people who supported me. I am very grateful and overwhelmed by how kind people were to me,” she said.

Her husband, sitting next to her, revealed that he managed to hand her the doctorate during the ceremony, adding that it was he who suggested that she go down the doctorate path.

“She also has two master’s degrees and she kept going to school all the time while teaching at night,” the president-elect said.

Biden added that the Ph.D. meant a $ 2,000 salary increase.

In a separate interview, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris also commented on the controversy.

In an interview with Good Morning America, Harris said she was “deeply disappointed that in 2020, that kind of approach would have some legitimacy.”

“He worked hard. He raised his kids. He went to night school. He earned degrees. He earned everything he has. That’s the American way, that’s the American spirit. So when there’s someone trying to downplay the importance of people to work hard, I think it’s not the American way, frankly, “added Harris.
