The 21-year-old man was due to appear in court on Friday afternoon.

A man was accused of having a dog that caused the death of a one-day-old baby.

The charge arose from a police investigation into the baby’s death on Masefield Drive, Hamilton, on October 25.

“We can confirm that a 21-year-old man has been arrested and charged with keeping a dog that causes serious injury / death to anyone,” a police statement said.

This is a crime against article 58 of the 1996 Dog Control Act.

The man is due to appear in Hamilton District Court on Friday afternoon.

Police were unable to comment while the matter was before court, a statement said.

A dog that killed a newborn baby is still alive and in the possession of Hamilton City Council.

The baby, named Jaxon, was born on October 24 in the early hours of the morning, but the joy of his birth was short-lived. On Sunday, October 25, around 7 p.m., he was attacked by a dog in Hamilton and taken to the Waikato hospital.

He died on October 27, less than three days old.

His mother had only gone to the bathroom when the tragedy unfolded, one of the family’s two dogs apparently took and attacked the newborn boy and attempted to bury him, a witness said. Stuff at the time.

A nearby resident recounted how a Rottweiler dog had run off the property twice earlier that day.

Being familiar with the dog, she helped him by placing him back in the well fenced section.

The mother had shown Karen her new baby when she returned the dog to her. I was so happy that he was born the night before, Karen said.

“Obviously he meant the world to her.”
