It comes when police today named Andrew Hamish Davidson, 60, and Lin Chen, 39, both from Ohoka in Canterbury, as the two people who died in a helicopter crash.
The accident left three children injured. All three were airlifted to Wellington Hospital yesterday with serious injuries. Two of the children are now stable, but one is in intensive care.
One of the children is a student at Medbury School and the other two are students at St Andrew’s College, both located in Christchurch.
“The Medbury community is strengthened in our Christian foundations and in the collective care and support it offers in difficult times,” reads a letter to Medbury School parents and caregivers.
“The school’s support of the Davidson family, both now and in the future, is critical along with supporting our community at large.
“Therefore, the school will open on Monday, December 21 between 10:00 and 11:00 at the Medbury Center for families to come together if they need support.
“A variety of counseling services will also be made available to support our community during this difficult time.”

St Andrew’s College also sent a letter, which reads: “We are supporting the families involved whom we hold in our hearts and prayers at this devastating time.
“We are grateful for the support from emergency services and those in our university community who are also supporting families.”
Ashley Bond, a neighbor of the Davidson family, said they “always had a big smile on their faces” when she saw them around.
“It’s a very devastating thing that happened to Ohoka,” he told 1 NEWS.
The Transportation Accident Investigation Commission has opened an investigation to find out how the accident occurred.
