Police have spoken to a man who left a chalk-written hate speech message outside Masjid An-Nur in Christchurch.
Stuffunderstands that the words “Islam is right about women” were written in chalk outside the mosque on Deans Ave on Saturday.
Canterbury District Commander Superintendent John Price said Tuesday that officers had “located and spoken” to a 36-year-old man regarding a series of chalk messages written on the trails in Christchurch, including the Masjid An Mosque. -Nur, the Linwood Islamic Center and several police stations.
“We appreciate that this behavior has attracted a lot of attention and we want to thank the public for letting us know.

“We also want to take this opportunity to remind the public that if they see any behavior that concerns them, to contact the police.”
The man appeared in Christchurch District Court on Tuesday for unrelated matters.
Masjid An-Nur imam Gamal Fouda previously said that education was important when it came to preventing hate speech.
He wanted programs taught in schools to educate young people about diversity and tolerance.
“New Zealand needs to do a lot more about hate and discrimination.”
