A family’s pet cat was shot to death with an air rifle in Masterton, and now police are asking the public for information about the incident.
The 10-year-old cat was found dead Thursday afternoon last week on the High St side of the Solway Showgrounds.
“The cat appeared to have a gunshot wound to the neck and subsequent x-rays
“They have confirmed that the cat had been shot with an air rifle,” a police spokesman said in a statement.
Anyone with information about the incident should contact Agent Hamish Bevin on 105, citing file number 201214/7969.
In January, Wellington’s cat George was left with a broken scapula after what his owner described as a “ruthless” event.
George was shot with an air pistol or a bullet pistol.
It was initially thought that George might have just had a sprain after limping home.
When he did not improve, he was taken to the vet where an X-ray revealed that he had a gunshot wound.
