Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins has launched a campaign for Kiwis to stay alert during the summer holidays.
Cricket fans were the first to get a push to remind everyone to stay on guard against Covid this summer.
Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins launched the national ‘Make Summer Unstoppable’ campaign during the third day of the second test of cricket between New Zealand and the West Indies at Wellington’s Basin Reserve on Sunday.
The television messages of the campaign were released on the giant screens of the party headquarters.
Hipkins’s message was that everyone had a role to play in achieving an “unstoppable summer.”

“After the year we’ve had, we all need a classic summer vacation that we can enjoy,” he said.

The campaign reiterated that everyone could make a difference by continuing with the basic health steps that have worked in New Zealand to fight the virus so far.
“As a country, we have all worked exceptionally hard to stop Covid-19.
“This campaign says: ‘Let’s keep it up. Let’s keep stopping Covid-19 so we can make the summer unstoppable. “
The campaign reinforced the basics of asking Kiwis to wash or sanitize their hands, scan QR codes and turn on the Bluetooth function in the Covid tracking app, Hipkins said.
He also reminded Kiwis to stay home if they are not feeling well, “even if it means missing cricket,” and to receive advice on whether to take a test.
“We are also asking companies and venues to actively encourage their customers to scan QR codes.”
Hipkins said that while this was not a new message, summer travel created additional challenges, so people needed to be especially vigilant.
“As the Black Caps constantly show us, it’s teamwork that gets you through, so it’s great to be able to show these campaign ads publicly for the first time at the kind of big event that so many Kiwis will want to be a part of.” .
Hipkins pointed to what had happened in the Northern Hemisphere during his summer and, more recently, the spike in cases in the United States caused by people traveling for Thanksgiving, as a warning.
“People traveled a lot and without taking precautions, which caused a large increase in cases. We don’t want that to happen here. “
Hipkins said the campaign was designed to “get the Kiwi summer off to a great start.”
“Christmas and the holiday season is a time of year when people get together socially more often.
“There are more large-scale events and people move around the country in greater numbers.
“This is why our approach to ‘Make Summer Unstoppable’ is to remember and motivate everyone to keep doing the easy everyday actions that will keep us Covid-19 free.”
