Downtown Otago, Inland Canterbury and Inland Waikato were expected to have highs of 30 this week.
For the second time in as many weeks, parts of the country could see temperatures as high as 30 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, when there is a big rise.
On Tuesday, inland parts of the South Island could have daytime highs eight degrees above average, according to WeatherWatch.
Downtown Otago, inland Canterbury and parts of Waikato were expected to have highs of 30.
The hottest main hub is likely to be Alexandra, where a high of 32 was anticipated.

And temperatures in the mid-to-late 20s could affect surrounding regions like North Southland, Marlborough, inland Nelson and parts of Northland.
The remaining isolated rains would clear up, and the next four or five days would seem settled in New Zealand, thanks to that high pressure system.
Cooler weather was expected to hit centers like Dunedin and Christchurch, with temperatures expected to be around 20 degrees for daytime highs.
The cooler areas would be along the coast, including parts of Auckland, exposed to a fade towards southern Tasmania.
Many regions would also experience single-digit lows overnight, on Monday and Tuesday mornings, according to WeatherWatch.
